Advanced Photobiomodulation for Cellular Wellness

Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), is a non-invasive light therapy that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body's natural cellular processes. Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light, red light therapy does not damage the skin or produce harmful radiation. Instead, it delivers therapeutic light energy that is absorbed by the mitochondria—the energy-producing structures within your cells.

This process is believed to enhance cellular energy production (ATP), helping cells function more efficiently and supporting the body's natural repair and recovery mechanisms.

Potential Benefits of Red-Light Therapy

Research suggests that regular red-light therapy may help:

  • Support healthy cellular energy production (ATP)

  • Promote natural tissue repair and regeneration

  • Reduce temporary muscle soreness following exercise

  • Support recovery from physical activity

  • Help relieve minor muscle and joint discomfort

  • Stimulate collagen production for healthier-looking skin

  • Improve skin tone, texture, and overall appearance

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Support healthy circulation

  • Help reduce inflammation associated with everyday physical stress

  • Promote relaxation and overall wellness

Evidence-Informed Wellness

Photobiomodulation has been studied for its role in supporting tissue recovery, skin health, muscle performance, and overall wellness. While research continues to expand, current evidence suggests red light therapy may be a valuable complementary treatment for individuals seeking to optimize recovery, maintain healthy skin, and support long-term wellness.

When Is the Best Time to Use an Infrared Sauna?

Infrared sauna therapy can fit into almost any wellness routine. The ideal time to schedule a session depends on your personal goals, lifestyle, and recovery needs.

After Exercise

Many athletes and active individuals enjoy using the sauna after a workout. The gentle heat can help relax tight muscles, promote healthy circulation, and support post-exercise recovery.

On Recovery Days

Even on days away from the gym, an infrared sauna session offers a way to promote relaxation and encourage circulation without placing additional stress on your body.

Before Massage or Bodywork

Using the sauna before a massage may help warm muscles and soft tissues, allowing you to relax more fully during your treatment.

In the Evening

Many guests schedule evening appointments as part of their wind-down routine. The calming warmth can help reduce everyday stress and prepare the body for a restful night's sleep.

After Travel

Long flights, road trips, or extended periods of sitting can leave you feeling stiff and sluggish. An infrared sauna session can help you relax, stretch out, and feel refreshed after travel.

As Part of Your Wellness Routine

Whether you're focused on recovery, relaxation, or simply making time for yourself, regular sauna sessions can be a valuable addition to a healthy lifestyle.

How Often Should You Use an Infrared Sauna?

There's no one-size-fits-all schedule. The right frequency depends on your experience, wellness goals, and how your body responds to heat therapy.

New to Infrared Therapy: If you're just getting started, we recommend 1–2 sessions per week. This gives your body time to adapt while allowing you to discover what feels most comfortable.

For General Wellness & Recovery: Many guests choose 2–3 sessions per week to support muscle recovery, relaxation, circulation, and stress management.

For Regular Users: Experienced sauna users may enjoy 3–5 sessions per week as part of a consistent wellness routine. Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and adjust your schedule based on how you feel.

If you're unsure which schedule is right for you, our team is happy to help you choose a plan that aligns with your health and goals.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION:

Hydrate

Focus on hydration as you prepare for your sauna session to enhance the detoxification process.

Sauna Prep

Bathing or rinsing off before you enter an infrared sauna will help rid your skin of any excess lotions, oils, makeup products, sweat, and dirt.

Less is More

Wear minimal clothing to expose as much skin as possible; swim attire or under garments are recommended, no nudity. This allows the infrared light to deeply penetrate and deliver maximum benefits.

DURING YOUR SESSION:

Every infrared sauna appointment takes place in a private, comfortable room designed to help you fully relax. You'll have the space to change, settle in, and enjoy your session without interruption.

Our infrared sauna is typically set to 130°F, creating a deep, comfortable warmth that gradually raises your core body temperature. As your body adjusts to the heat, you'll begin to sweat, your circulation naturally increases, and your muscles start to relax.

To enhance your visit, your sauna room includes several premium amenities, including:

  • One bath towel, one hand towel

  • Connection to bluetooth “Infrared Sauna” to enjoy your personal music with our high-end sound system

  • Red Light Therapy Tower - option to turn on/off

  • Adjustable Chromotherapy (color light therapy)

  • A sauna mat on bench and floor for additional comfort during your session

  • Premium triple filtered reverse osmosis drinking water with pink Himalayan salt to help support electrolyte balance and hydration

  • Peace of mind knowing your Clearlight Sanctuary Retreat comes with low EMF/ELF levels

Your privacy is important to us, so we won't interrupt your session unless necessary. If your appointment extends significantly beyond its scheduled time, a staff member may check-in to ensure everything is okay. Please stay on time with your reserved session.

AFTER YOUR SESSION:

Cool Down Gradually

Take a few moments to let your body temperature return to normal before jumping back into your daily routine. Many guests find this quiet recovery time just as relaxing as the session itself.

Rinse Off

A quick shower after your session can help remove perspiration and leave you feeling refreshed. It's also a great way to cool your body comfortably before heading home.

Rehydrate

Sweating causes your body to lose fluids, so replenishing them afterward is important. Enjoy plenty of water after your session, consider adding electrolytes or salt to help replace minerals lost through perspiration.

Enjoy the Relaxation

It's common to leave your session feeling calm, refreshed, or pleasantly tired. If your schedule allows, give yourself a few extra minutes before returning to work, the gym, or other daily activities.

Help Us Keep Our Facility Clean

We take pride in providing every guest with a clean and welcoming environment. Please leave the sauna room in good condition after your visit. Towels are provided for your convenience; however, towels returned with excessive staining or damage may be subject to a $20 replacement or cleaning fee.

Chromotherapy: Enhance Your Sauna Experience with Color Light Therapy

Every infrared sauna session includes the option to enjoy chromotherapy, also known as color light therapy. This wellness feature uses different colors of visible light to create a relaxing atmosphere and personalize your experience based on how you want to feel during your session.

While the infrared heat works to promote relaxation and recovery, chromotherapy adds another layer to the experience by creating an environment that can help you unwind, recharge, or simply enjoy a peaceful escape from the demands of everyday life.

Inside the sauna, you'll have full control of the lighting with an easy-to-use remote. You can choose a single color for your entire session or change colors as you relax.

Explore the Color Spectrum

Each color is traditionally associated with a different chakra, mood or wellness intention:

  • 🔴 Red – Encourages vitality and an energized feeling.

  • 🟠 Orange – Associated with creativity, optimism, and emotional balance.

  • 🟡 Yellow – Promotes focus, positivity, and mental clarity.

  • 🟢 Green – Creates a calming, balanced atmosphere.

  • 🔵 Blue – Supports relaxation and a peaceful state of mind.

  • 🟣 Purple – Encourages mindfulness, reflection, and tranquility.

  • ⚪ White – Offers a clean, refreshing environment that many find uplifting.

Many guests simply select the one that feels right in the moment, while others change colors throughout their session to create a personalized wellness experience.

Although chromotherapy is considered a complementary wellness practice rather than a medical treatment, many people enjoy incorporating it into their infrared sauna sessions as an added element of relaxation and self-care.

Safety & Contraindications

Infrared sauna use and red-light therapy are generally well tolerated; however, this therapy may not be appropriate for all individuals.

Clearlight Infrared Sauna Contraindications List:

Medications

Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician or a pharmacist for possible changes in the drug’s effect when the body is exposed to far infrared waves or elevated body temperature. Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Some over the counter drugs such as antihistamines may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.

Children

The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. Consult with the child’s pediatrician before using the sauna.

Saunas & The Elderly

The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature.

Cardiovascular Conditions

Individuals with cardiovascular conditions or problems (hypertension / hypotension), congestive heart failure, impaired coronary circulation, or those who are taking medications which might affect blood pressure should exercise extreme caution when exposed to prolonged heat. Heat stress increases cardiac output (blood flow) in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature.

Alcohol / Abuse

Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, they may not realize it when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress.

Chronic Conditions / Diseases Associated with a Reduced Ability to Sweat or Perspire

Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors and Diabetes with Neuropathology are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating.

Hemophiliacs / Individuals Prone to Bleeding

The use of infrared saunas should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.

Fever

Individuals should not use the sauna when they have a fever.

Insensitivity to Heat

An individual who has insensitivity to heat should not use a sauna.

Pregnancy

Pregnant women should consult a physician before using a sauna because fetal damage can occur with a certain elevated body temperature.

Menstruation

Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase their menstrual flow. Some women endure this process to gain the pain relief commonly associated with their cycle whereas others simply choose to avoid saunas use during that time of the month.

Joint Injury

If you have a recent (acute) joint injury, it should not be heated for the first 48 hours after an injury or until the hot and swollen symptoms subside. If you have a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind. Vigorous heating is strictly contraindicated in cases of enclosed infections, be they dental, within joints, or in any other tissues.

Implants

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect far infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system; nevertheless, you should consult your surgeon prior to using an infrared sauna. Certainly, the usage of an infrared sauna must be discontinued if you experience pain near any such implants. Silicone does absorb far infrared energy. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacement may be warmed by the far infrared waves. Since silicone melts at over 200°C (392°F), it should not be adversely affected by the usage of infrared saunas. It is still advised that you check with your surgeon and possibly a representative from the implant manufacturer to be certain.
